Helicopter view of Sossusvlei / Namib desert
Sossusvlei is a clay pan that is the end point of a usually dry river, the Tsauchab, in the interior of the Namib desert. The dunes, among the tallest in the world, blocked the river 60,000 years ago. The color of the dunes range from pale buff to deep red depending on the iron oxide content.
